Sunday Selects | The Beauty of Contrast

Sunday Selects is a weekly review of the art, artists and culture curated by gallery director and founder Kim Fonder. By providing a connection to newly discovered art and objects as well as sharing enjoyed rituals, Exhibit hopes to expand enjoyment of the creative approach in your everyday life. We find this approach similar to the concept of wabi sabi, a Japanese term referring to the appreciation of the beauty of imperfection, impermanence, and simplicity as the natural state of things in the world. Explore artist Maura Segal's textural abstract work, Jessica Feldheim's metallic mixed media, and Morgan Robinson's sculpture. All of these artist's work pair spectacularly with our curated rustic modern home objects and furniture.

Japandi Style

Japandi art has been gaining popularity in recent years due to its unique and harmonious blend of two distinct design styles. One of the key features of Japandi art is its emphasis on simplicity and functionality while still maintaining a warm and inviting atmosphere. This is achieved through the use of natural materials like wood and stone, which are often left in their raw and untreated state to highlight their natural beauty. Neutral tones like beige, grey, and white are also commonly used in Japandi design to create a calming and serene environment.

Featured Artist | Bethany Mabee

Bethany Mabee's unique approach to art is captivating, as she draws inspiration from the world around her to create pieces that are rich in meaning and complexity. Her use of unintentional reactions of color and water, followed by intentional applications of layers and shapes, highlights the cyclical and continuous nature of life. One of the most striking elements of Mabee's work is the juxtaposition of fluid feminine markings against bold masculine lines. This contrast creates a visual tension that draws the viewer in and forces them to consider the deeper meanings behind each piece.

Featured Artist | Ramona Stelzer

Ramona Stelzer is an incredibly talented and unique contemporary artist who has been honing her craft for the past 20 years in Germany. Even though she is largely self-taught, Stelzer is constantly learning and evolving as an artist. Her love for nature is apparent in her art, as she takes inspiration from its process, disintegration, transformation, and alteration. She paints large-scale pieces that allow the viewer to escape into her work and appreciate its beauty. Stelzer's paintings of flowers, while becoming increasingly abstract, also convey a deeper message of the parallels between humans and nature - their capacity to be delicate and beautiful, but also powerful, strong, and wild.
